Commercial architects in New South Wales
Alongside its residential work, Source Architects takes on selected commercial, hospitality, mixed use and public projects across New South Wales. The practice’s work at Montoro Wines was recognised with a NSW AIA Country Award, one of two the studio has received alongside a State Architecture Award. David Sutherland (Registered Architect NSW 7572) and Sally Sutherland (Registered Architect NSW 7587) lead each project personally, from feasibility through to contract administration on site.

Design is a commercial decision
For a business, a building is a working asset. How customers arrive, where they linger, how staff move, what the place looks like in a photograph and what it costs to run all follow from decisions made early in design. Treating that as an afterthought is what produces premises that quietly cost money for twenty years.
Adaptive reuse
Regional New South Wales is full of good buildings doing nothing. Bringing one back into use is often cheaper, faster to approve and far more distinctive than building new, and it draws directly on the practice’s heritage experience.
Fit out and interiors
Interior design, joinery and furniture selection are handled in-house, so a fit out can be taken on on its own or as part of the building work. See interior design for the full scope.
Sites that grow in stages
Where a business expects to expand, a master plan keeps each stage from blocking the next. Locally, see commercial architecture in Orange, our services, or get in touch.
Common questions about commercial projects
What kinds of commercial project do you take on?
Selected commercial, hospitality, mixed use and public projects, generally where design quality matters to the business and the practice can be involved from the outset.
Do you work on adaptive reuse of older commercial buildings?
Yes. Bringing a disused or tired older building back into commercial use is closely related to the practice's heritage work.
Can you help with a fit out rather than a whole building?
Yes. Interior design and joinery are handled in-house, so fit out work can be taken on independently.
Who leads commercial projects?
