The Thornton Community Centre was developed as part of UrbanGrowths North Penrith Defence Lands Project. The Cricketers Pavilion as it has become known, is currently serving as UrbanGrowths’ sales suite, but will in time be passed to Penrith Council and operated as a Community Centre for the new suburb.
The building is at the heart of a parkland area, surrounded by public art and children’s play areas. A protective skins of perforated metal allows complete closure of the facility at night for security and during the day is designed to manage solar access. At night, the building acts as a beacon and wayfinding device as light passes through the perforated skin.
David was the Design Architect and Project Architect for this project while employed by TKD Architects.
